Durango Mountain Pine Snake - Range
There is often some confusion about the geographic distribution of P.d.deppei and P.d.jani
in relation to one another. The ranges of these two subspecies were
physically separated by the vast Mexican Plateau as the last ice sheet
retreated. Both of these formidable mountain ranges are extremely
difficult to access over much of their respective ranges and hide many
herpetological secrets. The terrain occupied by P.d. deppei
is notoriously variable over even short distances and barely explored
from a herpetological point of view. P.d.deppei's range/habitat closely
overlaps that of the Variable Kingsnake, Lampropeltis mexicana "thayeri."
